Create Snapshots And Restore Safely

Protect workload state before risky operations and recover quickly when needed.

Category: Data Protection
Prerequisites
  • Server is healthy and critical services are in known good state.
  • Sufficient snapshot storage quota is available.
  • You understand whether snapshot captures full disk or selected volume.
Steps
  1. Open the server page and choose Snapshot or Backup action.
  2. Name snapshot with date and purpose, such as pre-upgrade-2026-04-22.
  3. Wait until snapshot status shows completed before proceeding with risky changes.
  4. To recover, open snapshot list and select Restore to server or new instance.
  5. Confirm target and start restore operation.
  6. Revalidate application configuration and data integrity after restore completes.
Verification
  • Snapshot appears in list with completed state.
  • Restored server boots and services start successfully.
  • Critical application data and configs match expected pre-change state.
Common Mistakes
  • Running major changes before snapshot completion finishes.
  • Overwriting the wrong target instance during restore.
  • Not documenting snapshot purpose, making rollback decisions unclear.
